Blade Runner
Blade Runner is set in 2019 where replicants are being hunted down by Blade Runner police. I am analyzing 3 Stages of the Hero’s Journey and their effectiveness. These 3 stages are the call to adventure, refusal to call, and the first stage.
The call to adventure for Harrison Ford is him being taken in to the police station and being told about the murder and the replicant. This is the call to adventure because without the murder and Harrison Ford being taken to the police station, he would never have been called upon to his adventure.
The refusal to call is quite a brief scene in the police station as well. Harrison Ford refuses the call to adventure immediately after being told about the replicant. Harrison Ford then tries leaving the police station but is told that he has no choice and that he has to go on the hunt for the replicant. At the same time, the first stage comes into play and Harrison Ford realizes he has no choice but to do what is asked of him.
Altogether, I think this film is very creative for 1982. I think that the idea of the film is good but it starts off kind of shaky. The film starts to smooth out but I still think that it was a little confusing, not as much in idea as in layout of the film. I give this film a 6/10.
