Lars and the Real Girl is Dramedy that my not catch your attention from the beginning, but as the story starts to develop you can truly have a great time watching this serious movie that has the right amount of humor that will make you love it. Lars and the Real Girl is the story of Lars Lindstrom is a young man who lives in the converted garage behind the house he and his brother Gus inherited from their father, their mother died while giving birth to Lars. Gus is married to Karin who is pregnant and always tries to invite Lars over to the main house for dinner. Lars finds it very difficult to interact with or relate to his family, co-workers, and neighbors. One day Lars announces to his brother and sister in law that he has invited a girl named Bianca who he met on the internet for dinner. To their surprise Bianca turns out to be a RealDoll who Lars orders from an adult website. He treats with respect and admiration and believes she is completely real. Gus and Karin believe that there’s something wrong with Lars so they secretly plan a way for their family doctor to get an evaluation on his mental condition by saying that Bianca needs to visit the doctor. Dr.Dagmar diagnoses Lars with delusion and Bianca with low blood pressure. She tells Lars that he should bring Bianca in weekly so that she could evaluate his progress with his delusion. As the doctor explains that Lars needs help from his family to get better Gus and Karin agree and tell the town to help them out. At first the town is very impulsive about what’s going on but they decided to help out Lars. As the movie develops we learn that everything that Lars says about Bianca’s family background and feeling is actually things that happen to him. The town becomes very involved with Bianca and Lars starts to get mad and jealous about the situation. Margo who is Lars co-worker has a crush on him but he won’t pay attention to her as he doesn’t like to get to close to people. Margo invites Lars to go bowling with her and he accepts but tells her that he doesn’t want to cheat on Bianca so they were just going as friends. On a visit to Dr.Dagmar we find out that Lars is worried about Karin because she’s pregnant and he is scared that she might die when in labor. After the date with Margo, Bianca becomes sick and she soon death is announce. The news that Bianca is sick hits the town and they become sad with the news. Dr.Dagmar explains to Gus that this shows process with Lars because he was the one that decided that Bianca was dying not her. After Bianca dies the town attend the funeral in which Lars ask that the attendees wouldn’t wear mourning clothes for Bianca was a great person and she should be remember with life. At the cemetery Lars is shown talking with Margo who he asks to go for a walk with him sometime soon. The ending shows that Lars overcame his delusion and came to sense and feels comfortable around people.
Lars (Ryan Gosling The Notebook) is portrayed with excellence compared to Goslings previous work. Gosling look and feel in the movie gives the character more realness and rounds him off pretty well. The reset of the actors aren’t well known actors as Gosling but they portray their characters with the best energy that they could give. The topic of this movie isn’t the most popular one but this is excellent because many people do go through things like even if they don’t get a RealDoll they will show their bottled emotions in another way let it be through being socially awkward or a bully. No one could believe that a major film could be made out of a topic so small. The movie sets the mood by being set in a cold calming and lonely small town. When given scene of the town we are shown a bridge and small homes covered with snow. Those scenes give us a felling of black and white and no color to make the movie vivid. To add more to the mood the music is very mellow and easy going.
What I enjoyed must about the movie was that the scenes were corresponding to each other and made sense to me. I have to say that this is a well directed movie and one of the creates creations by Craig Gillespie. I would recommend for people who are trying to find their self or just laugh at things that you never think possible you should go out and buy the DVD
