What do you get when you can’t get a girl and you try to forget about her in the army? This! This movie is such a great movie to start off. It is very funny and enjoyable by many, many audiences. In my opinion, this movie is one for the books.
So the movie starts off with Ollie and Stan, they are touring France and they are soon to be on their way home. The night that Ollie and Stan are supposed to be heading home, Ollie proposes to the girl that he loves but unfortunately, she rejects him because she is married. Ollie feels terrible and even though he didn’t get the girl, he still wanted to stay in France to commit suicide. So Stan agreed with Ollie to commit suicide with him. They make their way down to a river and tie themselves both up to a big stone block. After a while, the boys do not commit suicide because of Stan’s big mouth and not being able to shut it so they could finally jump into the river. When Stan does finally shut up, a soldier comes and tells them not to do it and to instead join the French Legion to help Ollie forget about Georgette. The one thing though, Ollie did not know that this soldier was Georgette’s husband. So the guys join the French Legion the next day and the first day they are there they already start to goof off and they do not follow orders so they are assigned to washing all the soldiers’ clothes. Even though Ollie and Stan were assigned to this task, they continue to goof off but doing so allowed Ollie to forget about Georgette, so they leave, unknowingly starting a fire with the clothes iron and setting all the soldiers’ clothes on fire! They try to escape but they fail and are sent to the army jail. When all hope seems gone, they were able to attempt to escape once again and start mayhem in the camp all over again. This includes making Georgette faint and destroying the leader of the camp’s office. After they are done there, they try their actual second time to escape. Do they escape? Or do they fail at doing so yet again? That I will not tell you and you must watch the movie to find out!
Now think of all of what I just mentioned above and add a little comedy here and there and you will see why this movie is so funny and enjoyable by many audiences. I also chose to not add many funny scenes that were in the movie to the review for the reason of not spoiling the movie. I chose to rate this movie 8 stars out of 10 because of it being so funny and having a great plot. This is slapstick at some of its best. I recommend buying a copy for yourself and watch this with all your family and friends because I’m almost sure that you will have a great time doing so.

Why suicide? o_O

What’s up with guys doing the weirdest things for someone that never even loved them, although I have to admit, it’s what made it funny. In my perspective, the plot of this movie was very entertaining and very unique, thus why I rated this movie 8/10. It starts off with two guys that go by the name of Ollie and Stan. As they tour a new country (I do not know which), Ollie falls in love with a woman named Georgette, but is heart broken after finding out that she is married. His intentions were to marry her, thinking that she loved him, but soon got turned down after she reveals to him that she is Mrs. Georgette! In my opinion, I believe a happily married woman should not be capable of bringing someone’s hopes up for the laughter, and selfish pleasure. I find that unacceptable, and if I were in Ollie’s place I would have tried to forget about her, but that’s not what Ollie even cared to think about. He decided that the best thing to do was to kill himself, but he also convinces Stan to do it as well, not caring whether his life was worth living. As what was part of the plan, they tied a heavy object to a piece of rope, and attached themselves to it, hoping that it would drown them as soon as they jump into the water. As Stan kept interrupting Ollie from jumping, a Legion Officer (Francois) spots them and talks them out of taking such repulsive action. He recommends that they join the Legion in helping Ollie to forget about Georgette, and as what was expected, they took his advice. Within a few days of participating in being a Legion, he grows to realize that it didn’t help him forget about Georgette; in fact it made it more difficult due to the fact that being part of the Legion required hard work, and soon decide to dessert the Legion. As part of their punishment for leaving the Legion, they are sentenced to a firing squad where they have no choice, but to wait to get killed. As they wait in the firing squad (a jail type contraption or room), clueless of what the Legion were to do with them, they discover a door on the floor that leads them through a tunnel at which, at a point, would lead them out of the Legion campus. As they crawl through the tunnel, the Legions are informed that Ollie and Stan have escaped, and soon are called out in search for them. Ollie and Stan soon exit the tunnel, thinking they were outside the campus, but then realize they were wrong. They run, and hide as they try not to be caught by any Legions. In fact, there are scenes that involve them both running away from dozens and dozens of Legions. This scene had me thinking that this film was directed quite well, and oh how funny it was. I have to admit; my favorite scene was when Ollie and Stan pop wine bottles, in need of a weapon, against the Legions chasing them in order to avoid getting caught, hilarious. You have to see it. As they dodge obstacles, and deal with much trouble, in having to escape, Ollie and Stan soon end up flying an airplane looking forward to getting away from the Legions, but ending quite tragically. Due to their no experience on driving a plain, they crash the plain into the ground, and only one ends up coming out alive, Stan. As Stan walks away, me thinking it’s the end of the film, there appears a talking horse! Stan was astonished, and myself as well, then soon learns that Ollie, after his death, was reincarnated into that same horse, which explains why it could talk. Out of my 15 years of life, I’d never seen such an awkward/weird ending to a film. This film ought to be known as a film that even the most serious person would laugh to. Indeed, a great film it was. The actors were hilarious, and I can’t imagine anyone else taking their place in this film, especially Stan, who in my opinion was the funniest of them two. I had no idea that people back in the late 30’s knew of such comedy, but how would I know? If you’re looking for a great laugh or your girlfriend/boyfriend just recently left you, watch this film, it might just save your life, or it can just make you laugh.
