the bicycle theif
A father goes out of his way to find a bicycle that was stolen that is vital for his life, job and his family.

The Film “The bicycle Thief” also known as “ladri de biciclette” was directed by Vittorio De Sica. This film takes place in Rome right after World War II in postwar ravaged which we all know cause’s pain, depression and very hard times for everyone. But in this case it was particularly hard for a certain family. Antonio Ricci (played by Lamberto Maggiorani) a father and husband of two had finally got a job that was posting posters of Rita Hayworth. Which could help his family but he needed a bicycle .So his wife and him decide to sell there sheets at the pawn so they can buy the bicycle they need and so they do. Everything is going great he’s learning how to properly post the poster when all of a sudden someone steals his bike which is heartbreaking for him because it is very vital for him and his family. He later returns home to pick up his son Bruno (played by Enzo Staiola) so they could go to an underground union. There he meets one of his friends who is willing to help him search for his missing bicycle the next day. So they go looking for it on the streets and in shops where bicycles are bought and they look and look but sadly they have no luck in finding the bicycle .So one of the men offer’s to give him and his son Bruno a ride to the nearest exchange when all of a sudden it starts to rain .As soon as this happens Antonio and Bruno take shelter by the wall form the rain .Soon after the rain start to give up and they are able to go look for the bicycle while they begin to walk ,Antonio sees a man exactly like the guy who stole his bicycle so he starts to run and Bruno began to follow his father on a chase that ends up dead because they did not catch the guy .But luckily there was someone talking to him so they go after him and follow him into a church .Where they spot him and where Antonio decides to get information of where the thief went and so he does but before he leaves he tells the old man that he will come with them and the man obviously does not agree and runs away .Sadly they still have no way of finding the bicycle so Bruno suggest they go eat and they do right after this Antonio gets and idea of visiting the charitable lady who his wife had went to for getting a job and so they go she tells them that “ you will find it now or you will never find it. “When she finishes Antonio and Bruno leave then suddenly Antonio sees a suspicious boy who is wearing a German cap exactly like the one the thief was wearing so he chases him and grabs him and demands the man to give him his bike back and the man says he does not know what he I stalking about .Soon people see this and start to gang up on Antonio luckily his son ran to go get a cop before this and the cop stops them form ganging up on Antonio which prevents him from getting beaten up. So they search the house and find no bicycle yet again .So Antonio and his son leave and start to walk towards the stadium and Antonio sees all these bikes by themselves and get an Idea because he see one by it lonesome self .He then tells Bruno to get on the streetcar and he will meet him home .As soon as Bruno starts to walk towards the street car Antonio heads for the bicycle and gets on it obviously panning to steal it and doesn’t get away with it because someone sees and they get him while everyone is gathered around Antonio and the owner of the bicycle Bruno manages to squeeze in and the owner sees his son and feels sorry for him a lets him go .So in the end they don’t ever find the bicycle which is pretty sad but it shows a lesson . In watching this film you think that everything is always going to be chipper and happy but sadly that’s a fairy tale and this film shows it .So over all I really enjoyed this film because it teaches a lesson and films that teach a lesson or have a moral do a great part in everyone’s life. As far as cinematography goes it was well put n very neat .If you are willing to learn something from a film I suggest this to be one of the films you watch.
A man struggling to make money for the family gets his bike stolen on his first day of the job.

The Bicycle Thief is about a struggling man to put food on the table for his family. The movie takes place in Rome post WWII. Since it takes place in Italy it requires watching the film with subtitles if you’re not fluent in Italian. Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) is an unemployed man that is struggling to get a job. When he does get a job it requires him to have a bike. So his wife sells some linen to the pawn shop in order to pay for the bike. He hopes this job will help the family since the pay is pretty good. The first day on the job he learns how to properly glue a poster on a wall. While he is gluing a poster his bike gets stolen he chases after the thief but eventually the thief loses him. This just ruins his day because he thought the income would help make things better for his family. The next day he gets a few friends of his and along with his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola) a place where most likely the thief would take the bike. They start looking when someone spots a part of the bike similar to the one stolen. The man that has the bike in his possession refuses to let Antonio see the bikes identification number. Antonio calls a cop so the man can allow him to see the number it turns out that it wasn’t the bike. Its starts to rain and that put a halt to the search for the bike. They go to another place and he finds a man that looks just like the guy that stole the bike. He follows the old guy that was making business with the young guy. He follows him to a church and tries talking about the bike but eventually the guy is able to make a run for it. As he tries to catch the old there’s kids calling for help because one of them is drowning. Antonio runs towards the kids thinking its Bruno but it turns out that it was a false alarm. Bruno was waiting for his dad on the top of a staircase. Antonio is so relief that it wasn’t his kid that he invites him to lunch. During lunch he allows his son to drink wine. It shows that incidents like that make you relies what’s really important in life. I think it made Antonio relies that an irreplaceable family is better to have than losing a replaceable bicycle. The end was a bit unsatisfying but at the same time it made sense since it’s based on an everyday plot. You’ll have to watch it in order to understand what I mean of this. I liked the movie since it was better than watching a musical. I was told after the movie that the actors that portrayed the father and the son weren’t actors they were everyday people playing the parts. In my opinion they did a very good job of playing the parts. I would rate this movie an 8 since it was a relatable movie to people that struggle every day. I enjoyed watching the film.
A sad movie, with a sad ending :(

The fim "Bicycle Theif" was a very depressing and dark. I really hate movies like this because all they try to do is depress you and make you feel bad for the characters. In my class for Art int- Film we had to vote either on this film or a musical that was a bit funny. I voted for the musical so the class would be very cheerfull, but this film was chosen. I was soo mad because I wanted to write a review of a movie that the whole class can enjoy. I really dont think this film is my type but, there were some scenes that I did enjoy. It was'nt too bad.
The film starts out by introducing Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) an unemployed worker. He's looking for a job to support his family which includes his wife Maria, (Lianella Carell) his six year-old son Bruno, (Enzo Staiola) and new born baby. They live in a very depressed post-war economy at that time in Rome, Italy. Long story short, Antonio gets a job and his whole family is very excited and happy that their father/husband has obtained a job. On the first day of the job Antonio begins working by posting flyers around the city for advertisement. I really hate this next part because its not fair that a honest working person has to go through such bad luck and misfortune. Although I think everyone at that time was having a bad time, specialy with the economic situation. Ok, so some random guy is shown stalking Antonio and has his eye on the bicycle that Antonio owns (which is rightfully his!) and just takes the bicycle and begins to leave. Antonio is surprised and begins to scream theif but unfortunately nobody aids him in obtaining his bicycle. He runs into the street and gets on a taxi to follow the man that stole his bike. A man tells him that the man their looking for has gone into the tunnel. So the taxi drives toward a man on a bike who appears to be the person their looking for, but sadly they have caught up to a random civilian and not the theif. Now at this point in the film I really hate the story and the whole plot because, now I know the movie is really going to revolve on finding the dam bicycle that has been stolen. I really wanted to help the character find his bike. I felt so helpless watching his bike being stolen and I felt even worse when nobody offered their help, and adding to that I was angered to find out that they did not find the theif that sopposedly was in the tunnel. What helpful advice that man gave. First of all, dont give advice to anyone that is'nt going to help them, but only dig their grave even deeper for them errrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! After that dissapointment of losing his bike he felt stressed and worried for his family's future. Worried, Antonio and his son Bruno set of to find the bike that had been stolen. Antonio's new job depended, on finding it. Antonio and Bruno went to a lady's house, she was a fortune teller/advice person that told the that if they dont find the bicycle now they will never find it ever again. They both left the lady's home and later on saw an old man that was talkin to or dealing business with the young man that stole Antonio's bike. They ran towards the young man but were unable to catch up to him. Its really weird that nobody helps Antonio huh.... They decided to follow the old man that was talking to the young man to mabey learn more info on where to find the young man. They followed the old man to a church where they managed to obtain the city or plaza where the young man lived. Though the only problem was that they didnt know where this city or plaza resined, and unfortunately the old man had evaded them and escaped their sight. Antonio was very tired and frustrated and sadly he let out what he felt onto Bruno by slapping him. Bruno got sad and mad and told his dad that he was going to tell his mom that Antonio had hit him. I thought it was funny and cute what he said. But, then Antonio really resented hitting Bruno because it really wasnt his fault that they were not able to find bike and it was not his fault that a man has to steal his Father's bike. Tired they sat on a bridge. Distracted, Antonio drifted from Bruno and left his side. Suddenly he heard screams shounting out saying that a boy was drowning. At that point Antonio thought the worst and what came to mind was losing his son. Scared he headed for the commotion to see if it was indeed his son luckily it was'nt. He looked back and atop of the stairs he saw his son sitting on the stairs. His face changed from worried to happy and so greatful that it was not his son. I really think that that was really lucky of Antonio not losing his son becuse if he did I would of gone nuts! I believe that material things dont matter as much as family does but in this case this family needs the bike in order for them to live. Thats why I think Antonio is really desperate abount finding his bicycle. Knowing that Antonio had his great son who was the only person who really helped him he took Bruno to eat at a restaurant. From the whole movie Ithought this next scene was the most posotive from the whole movie; I was glad. Antonio ordered Abottle of wine and two mozzerellas for them both. The reason Antonio ordered the mozzerellas was because next to them there was a wealthy or economically stable family who's son about the age of Bruno was eating a mozzerella. As this little kid ate strands from the cheese stretched very far and Bruno overlooked at what the other boy was eating. Antonio odered the same so Bruno would'nt feel lesser than the little boy. When Bruno ate he made long strands, showing the boy he can do it too. Getting closer to the ending the worst part comes so I wont say the ending because I dont feel like writing It. It's too negative and sad. But Ihave to say that both actors did a great job playing their role and conveying the message of the writer.
In my opinion the message or moral is (When the world comes down on you, keep your head up high and dont become what has damaged you because then you are the same as the person you hate, then you'll have no right to keep your head high because then you have just become your worst nightmare.) I give this film a thumbs up.
Antonio a father to a family and Bruno a son search for a stolen bicycle that is very important to his job.

This film Directed by Vittorio De Sica “The Bicycle thief “, takes place in postwar-ravaged Rome after World War II .In which case we know that war causes many problems such as loss of jobs ,food, and a big depression. Well in this case Antonio (played by Lamberto Maggiorani)a father to two children and a husband is in search of a job and finally gets one but, he needs a bicycle so he can go around posting poster of Rita Hayworth .He goes home and tells his wife this and she goes to the pawn and sells there sheets .They get the bicycle and are excited because they will be living good if this job goes well .But sadly this doesn’t happen Antonio was posting posters when suddenly a man took his bike and stole it .Which is obviously very precious and vital to him and his family. So obviously he and his son Bruno (played by Enzo Staiola) go in search of it and they look and look and look .Until he finds some of his friends at a under ground meeting place who volunteer to help him search for his stolen bike the next day .So they look and walk the streets and look at various bike shops yet again but nothing. Awaiting he sees a bike that is barely painted and that he thinks might be his but sadly it is not so his friends say that can’t find it and go home. So now it is just him and Bruno still searching for his bike they walk around and they find an open market and it starts raining so they run for shade or cover. Soon after it stops raining and his father Antonio see the same guy who stole his bike so he runs after him and looses him but luckily he saw the guy who was talking to him and convinces him to tell him where the guy is and he does .Antonio tells the guy to go with them to the place but before they could he runs away. While Antonio his father is frustrated Bruno suggest to go eat something so they eat .His father Antonio gets the idea of going to see the fortune teller his wife saw about him getting a job and she tells him ,“you find it now or you’ll never find it “.So while he was walking he sees a guy who is suspicious and looks like the guy who stole his bicycle because he is wearing a German cap and he tries to get the guy to confess to taking the bike but all these other man start to gang up on him and his son runs to go get and officer and the officer takes them to the boys house to search for his bike but miserably he does not find it. Finally him and his father decide to go home and while on there way home Antonio spots a bike all by itself with no one watching it so he gets an idea which is obviously to steal it .He gives his son Bruno some money so he can get on the tram or streetcar but, Bruno does not get on it and he sees his father stealing the bike and so does someone else so that person screams for helm and the men catch him and almost put him away in jail if it weren’t for Bruno. In the end they never find that stolen bicycle and it seem pretty lame that they don’t .But it shows that life isn’t about always getting what you and being happy forever it shows that in trouble times you have to over come things or become one of the troublers .Overall this film was really good even if the first time I actually thought about it I thought it was lame and now I see the true potential of this film and as far as the cinematography is its really good and well kept.
A man gets his bike stolen and he goes looking for it.

This movie is about a man who doesn’t have a job and is looking for one. When he finally finds a job, he finds out that he needs a bike for his new job. The bad thing is that he doesn’t have a bike to go to work. So then he goes to talk to his wife about his problem. When they get home the wife goes into his room and gets his blankets and washes them. Then they go to this store to sell the blankets so that the man will be able to buy his bike. After buying his bike he goes to his job place to find out when he starts working. The next morning he and his son, Bruno wake up early to go to work. Bruno is cleaning the bicycle so that it looks good. Then, they leave to go to work. The dad goes to drop off his son at the gas station where he works. Then, he goes to get his schedule to see where he is going to work and what time he gets off shift. When he starts to work a man is showing him how to do what he is supposed to do. He has to put up posters on the street’s walls. After he learns he goes to work by himself. When he is putting up a poster, a man gets near the bike and jumps on it and leaves. From there, were he gets his bike stolen is where he goes on his adventure with his son to go find his bike. When he gets his bike stolen he goes to the police station to file a report. After talking to the officer for awhile he knows that the police won’t help him out in any kind of way, so he goes to his friend for help. The next day the dad, the son, and the friend go out to look for the bicycle. They go to where people sell bike parts to see if anyone had broken up the bike to sell it by parts. They get no luck, so the son and the dad go by themselves to try to look for the bike. When the dad and the son are walking the dad notices the man who stole his bike talking to an old man, so he runs after the man on the bike. The man on the bike escapes so the dad goes looking for the old man and follows him into a church. Inside the church the dad tries to convince the old man where the other man is at. When the old man finally tells the dad where he is he tries to make the old man go with him. Then the old man says he wants soup and he escapes. Finally the father and son give up and go home, but before they get home the father sees a bike by itself. So he goes to steal it, but he caught, then the movie ends. I really like this movie, but don’t like the ending at all. He should have found his bike. The movie would have been a little good if it was in English and we didn’t need to read the subtitle. This way it would have been easier to concentrate what was happening in the movie
A man in search for his stolen bicycle

The film "Ladri di biciclette", directed by Vittorio De Sica, takes place in Rome right after World War II. People all over the city were desperate for jobs, and the economy was pretty bad. The whole city is basically going through a depression. Luckily, Antonio Ricci (played by Lamberto Maggiorani), finally got a decent job. His job is to post posters across the city. He needed a bike, so his wife traded some things for money in order to get himself a bike for work. Everything seems to be going well, he finally got a job that'll help him support his family, until someone stole his bicycle and ran away. Desperate to get his bike back, he searches for it around Rome with his son Bruno Ricci (played by Enzo Staiola). He got some people to help him search for it, but they couldn't find it. He was losing hope until he found an old man, whom he thought could help him to find the bicycle thief (played by Vittorio Antonucci). Unfortunately, the man got away. Antionio was so desperate he ended up stealing a bicycle himself, but he failed. People caught him, but luckily the owner of that bike just let him get off the hook. I gave this movie 6 out of 10 stars, because seriously the whole plot of it is pointless for me. It basically shows how people were pretty desperate for jobs after the war. And the whole film is about a man searching for his stolen back. Plus I didn't like the ending. It just ended with him leaving with his son. But at the same time, the ending was a bit sad. He wasn't able to find the real thief. I find it sad that when he tried to steal a bike, people went after him and helped out the owner. But when his bike got stolen, no one even bothered to help him to search for the thief. Even though this film is boring base on the plot, I think the director did exceptionally well on the film's cinematography. The way people interacted with each other. I like how the actors are not professional actors, but they still did really well. I also like the part where he thought his son drowned, it showed that he shouldn't let his problems get in the way between him and his son because any moment he can lose him. I don't like the fact that it's not in English. I'm just too lazy to read subtitles sometimes. Also what kinda intrigued me was the part you don't know who the title is referring to. Either the first bicycle thief or Antonio (since he stole a bike). So overall, cinmetography wise it was really good, but the whole story concept was a bit of a bore in my taste. I'm not a fan of drama films. It wasn't my choice to watch this film, but I had to. The film finished quite fast as well. It's not as long as the previous films that I've seen.
