Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen
I saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen last Saturday. My friend’s eight year old son want to see it having seen the ads of tv. Afterwards, I asked him what he would say to his friends about the movie.
He replied without hesitation, “I’ll tell them its not appropriate for them.> Indeed, I continued in my mind or for any of us. If ever a junk movies was made, Transformers ll is it. I was sitting in an aisle seat in the last row of the first section. Just to my right was a husband and wife. He was holding a two years old and a five year old girl, their daughter I thought, sat in the next row up. I kept looking at this girl and wondering how/why her parents brought her and he brother. The movies lasts 150 minutes. The noise level is at most times deafening, the scenes on the screen unremittingly violent, destructive, and senseless. If the term “gratuitous violence” ever meant anything—this movie is it. The movies has two intertwined plots which overlap is some incomprehensible way. The human plot is sleazy both in terms of character development (the mom especially) and language—which is not written for the ears of children under or over twenty-one, that includes everyone of us. This is a vile, offensive mindless trash movies, which should be an embarrassment to the American publics, but is rather, a blockbuster success if the NY Times art section is to be trusted. In addition, I read a review by Roger Egert whom we all know from tv. He worried his review may be too harsh. It isn’t. He should have slammed it harder. I worry about us Americans, and where we are heading. If this movie is an indicator—and the popularity it seems to enjoy—we had better worry more. Though my daughter, age twenty three, said she didn’t go to “that kind of film”, parent seem to take young ones. If you could have seen that five year old girl across the aisle from me, squirming, trying to turn her back to the seat, looking ahead at the screen assaulting us—you, dear reader, would know—this invasions of our movie theaters is a clear and present danger.
