Wass Up Rockers
A group of skaters from south central go to beverly hills to skate.
The movie Wass Up Rockers by Larry Clark is about a group of Mexican skaters that live in south central. The main plot of the movie is this group of skaters take a long trip from south central all the way to Beverly Hills for a skate session but on their way they keep running into problems.
They call these kids rockers because they all have really long hair and wear really tight jeans and skate. They are surrounded by Mexican gangsters that sag their shit and African American O.G.’s. They all get a bunch of shit because they’re style is different from everyone else’s. This movie shows what it’s like in south central like in the beginning of the movie you see just sum random kid walking through the hood and for no reason and sum fools in a car roll up right next to him and blast him multiple times. You also see like shoes hanging from power lines and graphite everywhere.
They main character is this kid from El Salvador named Jonathan. Through out the whole movie he keeps hooking up with all these chicks. He’s like boss of his crew like everyone likes him best and they do what he does.
When their journey to Beverly Hills starts they all plow into one of the kid’s brother’s car. Before they can even make it out of south central they get stopped by two cops on bikes. None of the kids have I.D.’s or license or anything so the cops take their car. Then it’s just a montage of all the different buses they have to take to get their. When they get to Beverly Hills they hit up this stair set for a while. They’re pretty good skaters but they all fall multiple times. While they’re skating it up they realize they’re being watched by these two really attractive rich girls. The girls like their rocker flow so they go up to them and step sum game up. One of the girls gives Jonathan her address and tells him “Stop by anytime”. While they’re talking to the two girls their boyfriends roll up and make them get in the car with them, their boyfriends are real dicks to the rockers like they call them f**kin Mexicans and beaners. They’re just like what ever and keep skating but while they’re skating this cop rolls up and is pissed about them skating there. He starts to take all their names. The cop gets pissed because he thinks they’re messing with him and starts yelling at them. One of the kids gets fed up and stands up and flips the cop off and runs and gets in the cops car then they all stand up and keep messing with the cop until they all just book it. While they’re running one of the kids falls and gets arrested. This is probably like the funniest part of the whole movie.
They all just keep running to get away from there until they decide their next mission is to get to the girl’s house. When they get there they all just kick it for a while. The two girls like Jonathan and his friend Carlos so they take them up to their room. Jonathan hooks up with one of the girls and Carlos just talks to her for a while about how it’s like in South Central and all the messed things they’ve seen. While they’re all just chilling at the girls houses their boyfriends roll up and see their skateboards and run up to the girls rooms and start brawling with Jonathan and Carlos. They throw Carlos out the window into the pool where all their other friends are just chilling then they go back and start beating up Jonathan. They’re all like shits going down so they all run into the house and just maul the three rich kids. They mess them up way bad then just book it.
They take off running through the rich people neighborhood jumping over fences and cutting through backyards. In one of the backyards they cut through there is a man standing there who just watches them cut through his backyard. They all make it over the fence except for one and all you see is the man pull a gun out and then you see all the rockers on the other side of the fence when they hear a real loud gunshot. They wait there a minute for their friend to jump over but when it stays silent and he doesn’t come over they all run and hide. They make it to this wooded area to hide and as soon as they get there they all break down in tears over what has just happened to their friend. When they get it together they decide that they’ve had enough of Beverly Hills and they want to head back but they’re along way from South Central. They cut through sum more yards trying to get out of there. While they’re cutting through yards they run into this maid who is friends with one of the kid’s mother. She makes sum calls and sets up a ride for them. While they’re waiting the lady who owns the house comes out drunk and goes up to their friend kico and starts talking to him all drunk. She ends up taking him into her house and gives him a bath for some reason but while she’s giving him a bath Jonathan comes in and tells him their ride is there. Kico jumps out and runs out the room but when he jumped out the drunken women lost her balance and falls in and while she tries to get out she grabs the chandelier right about the tub and it falls in electrocuting her to death. This part makes no sense like her dying affects nothing in the movie and there’s almost no reason for her dying but its kinda all like what?
When they get back to South Central its early in the morning the next day. They’re still upset about losing two bros in one day. It seems really calm they’re just walking like all their problems are over until they run into these three African American gangsters and they ask them “why you were yo’ shit so tight” and all they say is that’s how we roll and keep on walking. As they’re walking away from them one of the gangsters pulls out a gun and shoots 3 times in the sky and shouts “Wass up rockers!”
This movie is pretty exciting, like a lot happens through out this whole movie. Any skater or punk rocker will definitely like this movie.
